UK Distribution + Transmission Charges
Distribution Use of System (DUoS) charges cover the cost of building and maintaining the local distribution networks. The local District Network Operator (DNO) or Independent District Network Operator (IDNO) publish their rates each year and apply pass-through charges which are incorporated within consumer energy bills. For advanced Half-Hourly (HH) supplies, aside from within the unit rates, the pass-through charge is mainly the capacity charge typically applied as a separate line within the energy bills.
Transmission Network Use of System (TNUoS) charges cover the cost of installing and maintaining the transmission system. The National Energy System Operator (NESO) publish their rates each year which include the non-locational demand residual charges which again is a pass-through charge incorporated within the standing charge of consumer energy bills. These costs are scheduled to increase by 94% from 1st April 2026 and will continue to rise in future years.
Energy end consumers with advanced HH meters can review their historical Maximum Demand (MD) to determine possible savings, in both DUoS + TNUoS, by lowering their Maximum Import Capacity (MIC) levels. The savings we are reporting are high and we encourage such energy end consumers to review our Capacity Level Reports.
